My Obsession With Water

My Obsession With Water

If you have read my other posts, you’ll notice I mention my obsession with water a lot. Whether it is a calm, peaceful Loch, or a roaring white-water river, or whether I am paddling in my kayak or simply paddling with my feet, I am in my most relaxed and stress-free zone when I am next to a body of water.

Kayaking on the River Tay

There is just something to relaxing about the sound of waves on a beach or the trickle of a stream. Yes, sometimes it makes you want to pee. But that’s a risk I’m willing to take!

And the nature aspect is just…marvellous. So much biodiversity to be found in water sources.

I think the obsession with water stems from growing up on the banks of a river. I have always had the noises, the peacefulness and the wildlife that comes with a river, and not being near water makes me feel claustrophobic, stressed and sometimes simply “stuck”.

This also means I love partaking in watersports, from the calm and gentle to the rougher and more adventurous!

I feel water represents freedom: the freedom to travel as you wish, the freedom to flow around obstacles and to fluctuate. Almost like a representation of how life should be lived.

This post, I will admit, isn’t a story and doesn’t have much of a point. I just simply wanted to give a nod towards the natural beauty of water. If you’re feeling stressed in your everyday life, head to the beach, or kayak down a river, or maybe try some white water rafting. Get next to the water and I guarantee your worries will fade  away.

  1. I grew up on a river, too, and it's one of the things I miss about where we live now – no major river nearby. We have the sea just down the road, which is good – I love standing with my feet in the sea and thinking that this body of water is at this very moment connected with all the continents of the world. But there's something about rivers that I love even more…

  2. Yes, absolutely! I think it's the flow of rivers, they can change so often, and I feel they represent freedom and peace and the ability to go anywhere you want 🙂 it's funny, I think sometimes people who didn't grow up next to water don't understand it, but it's like something is missing now I'm in the city, but when I go back home? Everything is peaceful again 🙂
